An addon pack created to bring you a more realistic, immersive, and dynamic experience in the Zone. [Exploration-oriented.]
UPDATE 1.1 IS OUT NOW WITH A FEW MINOR FIXES! DOWNLOAD IT FROM HERE
If you want a more combat-heavy experience, try the other version of the mod with Warfare instead of DrX Desolation and Full Simulation A-life.
Installation: simply extract the archive and copy the files to your CoC folder. In order to make sure the pack doesn't clash with other addons, it's best to perform a clean install on a fresh version of CoC 1.4.22.
If you're using a monitor with 16:10 aspect ratio, you will need to download the Gnomus scopes mod (link below) and paste its 16:10 folder into the game!
Overview: the aim of my mod pack is to create an experience that is more realistic, immersive and dynamic than the vanilla game. The entire HUD and most of the indicators have been completely removed - if you die suddenly, out of the blue, chances are, you have either bled out, starved to death, or died to radiation poisoning. Make sure you learn how to stay attentive about your status. NPC (and anomaly) beeps, and target identification through binoculars have also been removed, which means you will have to rely on your senses and game knowledge when it comes to dealing with the occupants and hazards of the Zone. (The new HD models should help a bit with differentiating between factions.) Weapon (and armor) variety is now broader thanks to Arsenal Overhaul (and the Outfit Addon), and the Warfighter addon and smarch config changes make weapon damage more realistic. (Prepare to get one-shot a lot more often - at least until you acquire proper gear.) There are tons of new artifact types in the game now too. DoctorX's addons and the A-life simulation mod make the game more dynamic. The game should look and sound a lot better overall. (I have excluded the dense/tall grass option from Absolute Nature as it can be quite taxing, but if your rig can handle it, you can install it yourself.) You cannot run around with tons of guns and supplies anymore, but you can loot money from corpses now. This should make the game a bit more realistic - looting will be tougher however, due to the decreased population. The Zone is a more desolate place now, but its inhabitants will interact more with each other. You will need a good PC to run this pack - if you experience memory related crashes, see the fix under the recommended settings section.
The pack contains the following addons:
I highly suggest you also download and install SarisKhan's Stalker Tweaks since it complements the pack nicely. (It's only one file, so it should be really easy to install.) I might add it manually in a future update.
Some other tweaks include:
- Max carry weight is now 35 kgs. (You will drain your stamina almost instantly once you exceed it.) You will be unable to move once you reach 50 kgs. (Both can be remedied with upgrades, artifacts, and consumables, obviously.)
- Many on-screen prompts have been removed. (Item usage, weapon jam, too overloaded to continue, etc.) (I'm not sure if Smurth's Hud was supposed to remove them, but I kept seeing them even after installing it.) Damage indicator and important prompts (quicksaving, etc.) are still present.
- Reload DoF has been removed.
- Radio tracks from the Faction Playlist addon have been normalized (their volume levels should be closer to each other, no more single tracks blasting from the radio) and their attenuation tweaked. I have also removed every track that I felt didn't belong to the game. (No tracks with English lyrics, etc.) Some of it comes down to personal preference, so if you don't like it, feel free to install a different radio mod.
- New main menu music volume has been reduced slightly.
- NPC beeps have been completely removed (through Smurth's Hud addon).
- New main menu background. (Taken from the Dynamic Change in the Menu mod.)
- Cursor has been replaced by a simple white one.
- Weapon damage and ammo piercing properties have been updated based on the smarch config. (Recoil and degradation haven't been changed, only the damage and ammo values were implemented.) Weapon damage is now based on the ammunition used.
- Replaced most of the Duty megaphone sounds with their Russian versions. (Also replaced the arena fight crowd sounds.)
- Trading conditions for weapons have been modified. It is somewhat lower overall (with the base value of 60%), but it has been slightly adjusted in a few cases where it makes sense. (Sidorovich will gladly buy crappier weapons, but the military trader might have higher standards, for example.) Obviously, the worse the condition, the less money you will get.
- I have added large address header to the .exe file. This should (might?) enable systems with more than 2GBs of ram to utilize it properly. If you have less than 2 gigs of ram or are running the game on an 32bit system, don't overwrite the original .exe file with the one included in the archive. (To be honest, I'm not sure if the patch is needed or even works with CoC and/or Win10 - I've still managed to run into memory errors after using it -, but I figured it can't hurt.)
Recommended settings:
- Consumable animations should be set to "full" for complete immersion.
- Draw crosshair should be disabled. (!)
- Show tracers should be disabled.
- Weapon overheating should be enabled, but the heat HUD bar should be set to "off".
- The rest (eg. delayed repairs, enhanced shot effects, dynamic mask HUD, sleep deprivation) is up to you, depending on the level of immersion you want to achieve.
- Master difficulty (duh).
- For optimal performance, you should set the process priority for XrEngine.exe to "high" in task manager. (Download Prio to make sure it stays that way even when you close and start the game again later.) I heard that enabling every core except the first one for the XrEngine (with multicore CPUs) also helps with the performance, but don't take it for granted.
- In case you have a solid rig, bring up the console in-game (by using the ~ key), and type in r__detail_radius 250 (note the double _). If you have troubles finding the correct _ symbol on your keyboard, just type r and scroll down until you find the command. This will increase grass distance at the cost of some performance.
- If you're running the game with an Nvidia card, try using the Nvidia Control Panel to inject AA into the game: Manage 3D settings -> Program settings -> Add, then find XrEngine.exe under the bin folder. (I will show up as Call of Pripyat once you selected it.) Then set Antialiasing mode: overwrite application setting, and select your preferred settings for Setting and Transparency. This will make the game look a lot smoother at a relatively small performance cost. (Depending on your settings, of course.) Make sure, however, that the in-game antialiasing is turned off.
- You will need a competent rig to run the game with this addon pack. (Mainly due to the added HD models and the A-life changes.) If requested, I can upload a version without the HD models.
- Should you run into CTDs when trying to enter Truck Cemetery or in general (the game might run out of memory due to the increased load), create a shortcut of Stalker-CoC.exe, right click it, go to properties, and enter -noprefetch to the end of the target field. It should say ["C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Call of Chernobyl\Stalker-CoC.exe" -noprefetch] (without the brackets, of course), or something along those lines, depending on your install location. That should fix the issue.
- If the game crashes on start with the error message that says there weren't enough textures for a given mesh, set it to dx11, that should fix it.
Known issues:
- When eating Tourist's Breakfast, the animation plays improperly. (Not a big issue, it's just that the can doesn't open.) I tried messing around with the AO3 patch and the original backup animation included in Smurth's mod - and their combination -, but it still persists. It could be that that is the intended animation for the addon, not sure. If you know how to fix it (or at least how to replace it with the default animation), please let me know.
- Grenade priming indicator (when holding down RMB) is still visible - let me know if you are aware of any method of removing it.
- Some rare crashes from time to time (to be expected from the game itself), for example when an NPC wanted me to give him some vodka as a quest. The game seems relatively stable otherwise. (Well, as stable as a Stalker game can be. :P) I've also seen some DrX code snippets showing up among some quest dialogue lines once. Nothing gamebreaking though, I can generally play for hours without encountering any crashes.
- There might be some issues due to the dynamic factions addon (failing quests because the questgiver's faction declared war on yours, companions trying to kill people who are allied with your faction, etc.). Just chalk it up to the Zone being a weird place.
- Duty megaphones in Rostok still play some English voice lines from time to time. Just pretend they want to make sure everyone gets their message. :P
- Stalkers will often have a comically hard time finishing off downed opponents. Not sure what causes it.
- Had to remove a few updated models from the game due to bugged meshes. Some traders and one Duty model have their regular models. NPCs wearing suits from the Outfid Addon mod will also have their regular models.
- Actor breathing sound when running out of stamina without a helmet is missing. I'm not sure what caused it (could be a feature of the Smurth's Hud addon), but I personally don't really mind it. (Quite the opposite, since it was prone to cutting off mid-breath to begin with).
- Clicking the Guide tab on the PDA screen leads to a CTD. Just don't click it, you don't need it anyway. ;)
- The repair button on the mechanics interface looks a bit bugged (no repair text or icon on it), but it functions properly.
- Some slight clipping of the player model (arms) will occur when wielding certain weapons (Remington 870, for example), due to the increased FoV.
- Game might crash to desktop when trying to enter Truck Cemetery. Fix above, under the Recommended settings section.
- Traders and mechanics (important NPCs too) will usually spawn outside their shop and walk inside. If you don't see one of them, don't freak out, just wait for them to arrive.
- Some stuttering might happen here and there due to the A-life addon. (Especially when approaching populated areas, like Rostok.) This can be reduced somewhat by installing the game on an SSD drive.

Let me know if you enjoyed playing with the pack or if you ran into any issues!
Good hunting, Stalker!
I'm not sure if I'm right at all but warfighter might be kinda out of date.. Though, this pack looks awesome and now I wanna play it lol
It's old, but it still functions properly - it changes damage values globally, so I find it complements other addons pretty well. ;)
I hope you'll have fun with this pack, should you decide to give it a shot!
downloading pack right now, judging from what I see I am in for a treat.Thank you for the work big man Prink!
Pleasure's all mine! Hope you'll have a good time with it! ;)
For me personally it runs flawlessly (even better than vanilla CoC, almost no stutters and more stable fps) which comes as a surprise given the Absolute Nature addon. Big thanks for this Overhaul mod! Only problem is, for me at least, every now and then when i try to talk to a NPC and i press F the game crashes to desktop with no X-Ray engine crashed blah blah blah. Just instantly closes the game and no message or crash report appears. Any idea what causes that? Great mod whatsoever and a great job overall! (Also, i'm using Dxtory to cap the fps at 40. Helps a lot with the stuttering)
Hmm, next time it happens, open up a text editor (like notepad) and press ctrl+v, let's see if it generates a log for you. That should help figuring out what's the deal with the crash.
And thanks by the way! ;)
It says out of memory but i run the exe with -noprefetch :/

Hmm, my only suggestion is to try and reduce the texture quality a bit, that could help with running out of memory. Alternatively, you could try reducing the population in the game menu. Sorry it leads to crashes for you, it's kinda resource-intensive altogether with the HD models and all.
Don't apologize man, the mod is great and thanks for the fast replies! I had already reduced the population to 0.5 and will try out lowering the textures! A big thanks again for your effort and support. Good hunting! ;)
You Beautiful Person. This is absolutely great.
Cheers! ;)
Very nice mod combination.
Could you please add dynamic fire place, playable tent to improve immersion?
You should be able to install them on top of the pack if you apply the appropriate patches (AO3+OA for the Tent, and the Questlines patch for the fireplace addon). I might update this pack in some time, in that case I'll make sure to include those mods. ;)
This is an update confirming both Dynamic Fire Place and Deployable Camping Gear mod work with this mod.
Thanks Prink again for making this mod pack!
FYI for future readers, the deployable tent mod overwrites Plink's economy changes. I believe I properly merged them. Let me know if anyone wants them; it only took 10 minutes, if that.
There's a crash that keeps happening to me whenever I try to get to Skadovsk about there not being enough textures for an npc. Any idea how to fix it?
Sorry for the late reply, been abroad. Try changing to dx11, that should theoretically fix it. ;) In case it persists, let me know, I'll look into it!
Nice! This is almost exactly the same as my 'mod it until it breaks' build, whilst said build was still working that is. I then added a few more addons to it, and it broke. Oops ;-)
Scopes appear in the upper left corner of the screen, and dont zoom in at all. Also they only cover one quarter of the screen. Is there a way to fix it? Nice mod pack btw
Edit: They do zoom in, but they are not centered and scaled correctly.
Make sure the FoV slider is set to 83 in the options menu, that should fix it.
Oh my god. Back to the zone baby. I love you prink! happy christmas.
Enjoy! ;)
Happy holidays to you too!
is there anyway to fix the texture problem in cordon with the loner texture crash without having to play on dx 11? My PC isn't really the best and I can play fine on dx 8 but on dx 11 it runs pretty bad. Update: I found the texture in question it's newloner sunrise ultra_nationalistic_loadout_a1_col
Why don't my cross-hares turn green or red when I'm aiming at an NPC, it was my quick way of not killing friendly factions. Is there a way to fix this? Other than a few other small tweeks I made, I love the Mod.
Sorry for the late answer! One of the main aims of the mod is to increase realism by removing the UI and the help you get from it, and as such, NPC identification was purposefully removed from the game. There might be a way of enabling it under the game options though, you can try giving it a shot, maybe it works. Otherwise just exercise caution. ;) I know it's sometimes hard to identify other inhabitants, but the HD models should help a bit.
NJ prink mods good.
Is there any way to turn down or turn off the effect when you get shot(your screen goes crazy like your drunk)?
Thanks for this mod pack.
Don't know how to critique this addon cause is so damn good. Do you make the "roadside picnic" addon? I really enjoy that pack and style for CoC.
So, yeah. I'm gonna make a dramatization of a stalker and a trader who's setting him up at start.
-good morning stalker-
-hi siderovich, I need something to detect anomalies, and a good Geiger counter integrated with it.
-sure, this one beeps on detection of artifacts, anomalies, and buzz on radiation fields...
-what? No. I don't want that ****. Give me one who doesn't make any sound.
(...)
-at all?
-yeah, cause I'm so badass. I don't need beeps, also I may mess up one another.
-but... But. Is two kinds of beepings. I promise you won't mistake them.
-no... I'm sure I'll be ok
-but, some of those anomalies can kill you in an instant. A horrible dead
-don't worry. I've done this before.
-but you have some good gear then, and I'm sure you took the whole packet. Is for your own protection!
-no. The zone is very overrated. We don't need those kinds of things anymore
-you will die, sir. A horrible, painfully...
-ah, almost forgot. I Also want the guns to have a fov like I was two meters away from them. That will gimme the edge I need.
(...)
-that will be 100 ru.
-here... See you around siderovich
-... Yeah... Sure...
So. That's all, really. If there's a way to back the fov to normal when aiming without scopes. And beeping when close to anomalies... I kind of fear for my (virtual) life there.
Also I tried to add outfit loot, but somehow it ctd every time. The same with stash from SOCH and CS.
I must be doing something wrong.
OK. Thanks again for such a fantastic pack.
ok. already fix the fov (my bad) just need the beeps... you know.
also, i feel like im fighting a little too much. not that i don`t like it (love it) soo...
ok thanks again.
yeah.
It cause an increasing amount of ctd, even without any other addon. Such a shame, cause it`s a really good pack. i hope someday you can fix or test this better.
anyway, tnx again.
Hmm, can you paste a crash log here the next time it happens? The pack is pretty resource-intensive, mostly due to the HD models. You can try adding -noprefetch to the executable (instructions in description) or changing your dx settings/lowering your graphics. It runs absolutely stable on my end (had a friend test it too on his rig too just to be sure), but you might never know with Stalker... :P
Absolutly. I`ve been using -noprefetch since 1.3 CoC. Also window mode. I down the graphs to dx9 and get more stable (usual CTD now and then, no big deal), but no other addon seems to work.
i deleted the ogg sound to get the beeping again, no luck (oddly only beeps when i open inventory)
There is anyway to fix this?
Hm, I seem to be having a persistent crashing issue relating to the alife. When I look in the log file the problem seems to be:
"stack traceback:
....l.k.e.r. - call of chernobyl\gamedata\scripts\_g.script:73: in function 'alife_object'
... of chernobyl\gamedata\scripts\sim_squad_scripted.script:132: in function <... of chernobyl\gamedata\scripts\sim_squad_scripted.script:124>
ALIFE OBJECT ID IS 65535!
"
This error loops again and again until
"- Disconnect
- Destroying level"
is shown at which point it stops. Rinse and repeat this error until it causes an out of memory crash. Is this fixable?
Hmm, where does the issue happen? (I mean in which area of the game?) Honestly, I have no clue as to what could cause it but I'll try to look into it later.
It seems to just be a general issue. I've started multiple new games and have the error pop up anywhere from messing with an anomaly to just walking around not doing much at all. The main common thread is that it always tends to happen about 5 to 10 minutes after starting a new game and the fact that it's always the same error.
That's strange... it's obviously some sort of issue with the dynamic a-life mod, but it's really hard to figure out the exact cause from afar. I will check if I can find some sort of solution once I have some free time. Did you add the addon pack to a fresh install of CoC? Are you using any other addons in addition? (Just trying to see if it could be cause by any external factor.)
Sorry for the late reply. I did in fact have some mods installed while getting this error and managed to narrow down the probable culprits. They are Eugenium Hazardous Anomalies, Ignite or Extinguish Campfires [1.4.22], and Extended Dynamic News. The other mods I had installed at the time were just small texture and sound tweaks and probably not responsible.
Wow, this is just what I was looking for. Thanks for the detailed description. I'm going to try to build something like this with 1.5 (starting with R6) for myself.
I started as a Loner in Cordon, and some strange stuff is going on. Bandits are walking freely in the village attacking ONLY me and none of the other Loners which is kind of confusing, shouldn't the other loner react somehow if a bandit is walking right in front of their eyes?
Hmm, that's strange, never encountered that issue myself. Can you check the Relations tab on your PDA? By default, bandits and loners should be enemies and shoot each other at sight. Maybe try starting a new game to check if the issue persists. To be honest, I have no idea why it might happen in the first place.
DOES NOT WORK WILL NOT EVEN START.
Are you using CoC 1.4.22? Works fine here and judging by the feedback it should work properly with a fresh install of CoC.
(If you're gonna give it a 0 rating, at least wait for my response, let's try to figure out what's wrong with it on your end.)
Aw :(
Hello. Is there another version of this addon that uses OWR?
This is exactly what I was looking for! I want to survive the zone, and I don't like what I perceive to be the artificial difficulty of Misery & Last Day. Thank you Prink!
I suggest adding Inaccurate Zombies & perhaps Immersive Fast Travel to the pack.
Also, I saw mention of a dynamic fireplace mod. I can't find it, does anyone have a link?
Moddb.com
(Sorry about the delayed reply.)
When I click the guide section of the pda, the game crashes with an error message. Any ideas why? I installed this addon on a clean coc install with no additional addons. I can't post the log right now, was wondering if someone might now the cause of the crash regardless.
Yeah, it's listed on the known issues section. :P
I tried removing the guide section, but it caused more issues. Just ignore that tab in your PDA, you won't need it anyway. ;)
Hi there! Will this work with Lost to the Zone and Living Legend?
Moddb.com
Hey, just saw you message in my inbox, sorry about the late reply. To be honest, I don't think it will work, this pack is held together by duct tape and chewing gum (and sheer willpower pretty much), it's hard to add additional content without breaking it, especially when we're talking about larger scale addons, like the ones you have mentioned. It all comes down to what files the addon changes - however as I can see, there is support for DrX Questlines, AO and OA in Lost to the Zone, so it's not a lost cause, but it would require a lot of work to get it stable. (Living Legend is out of the question thought because it required CoC 1.5.)
Lost to the Zone seems very problematic to me due to all the content it changes - I believe it would require a lot of tweaking to get it done. For that, you would need to individually change every file that gets overwritten during install, and even so I'm pretty sure it would break something along the way - but if you're feeling adventurous and know what you're doing, you can always give it a shot. ;)
