Medieval Matriarchs update 4/30/2024. See description for changes.
Updates
04.29.2024 - Major update.
- Fourth Matriarchal Dynasty perk renamed "Warrior Queens". Instead of granting Amazon-related perks, now gives a unique Casus Belli for women of the dynasty to conquer lands held by men.
- Amazonian content is now dependent upon a sequence of events that will lead to your dynasty entering into an alliance with the Amazons. To initiate contact, you should go on hunts, declare offensive wars, or establish a dynastic matriarchy. Note that the Amazons will only approach the head of the dynasty, and only if she is a woman.
- To increase your standing with the Amazons, recruit them, have them serve you in battle, or accompany you on hunts. You can also gain favor with the Amazons by taking Matriarchal dynasty perks, or by using the decisions to conquer the Amazonian homelands of Themiscyra or Scythia.
- If you start as Amazonian culture the alliance feature is mostly disabled (though you can still become permanent allies with the Amazons upon creating an Amazonian empire). However, you can still conquer a homeland for the Amazons and interact with the faith and culture.
- The Amazons now longer follow Hellenism. They instead follow a new faith called "Heraionism". This faith can be reformed via decision or via the normal methods.
- If an Amazon kingdom is created, the culture can be reformed with a more powerful matriarchy tradition.
- Several changes have been made to Amazon traditions and men-at-arms. Notably, the Amazonian Matriarchy tradition now locks the culture into Female Only succession.
- Many other small adjustments and fixes. I will update the Google documentation as soon as I am able.
As always, feedback is encouraged and appreciated. If you find any bugs or strange behavior be sure to let me know. The best place to contact me is on Steam, but if you want to talk to me in Discord I am available for DMs.
Thanks for your patience, this wasn't a particularly difficult update but it was time-consuming. There's more I want to do but I wanted to get this out so I could finally have something to show for my efforts.
03.09.2024 - Compatibility update for 1.12.*.
My Thoughts
Please make sure to let me know if anything is broken or seems to not be working as it should. I have done my best to test things, but marriage and how the AI handles it is complicated.
The reason I changed the court consort was doing this allows me to not overwrite birth events and sidesteps all issues regarding infidelity and children ending up with the wrong mother. I liked the way it worked before better, but it caused some issues that I didn't know how to solve, and this lets me skip overwriting and maintaining a huge event file.
From now on, I will use this this discussion thread to talk about what I'm planning for the next version.
Overview
- This mod was inspired by Lesbocracy for Crusader Kings 2. It's something of an experimental project, me playing around with the modding capabilities of CK3 while trying to adapt features from that mod into CK3.
- The primary features of the mod aim to give flavorful and mechanically interesting ways to elevate the status of women in a world that (under default settings) is primarily male-dominated. It also has features which emphasize lesbian romance and sexuality.
- Regarding game rules, note that this mod is designed around the historical/default settings for Gender Equality and Same-Sex Relations/Marriage. If you adjust these settings some parts of the mod may become redundant or weird (though it should still work).
- Though the two focuses of the mod; matriarchies and lesbian relations, are synergistic and work well together, they do not depend upon each other. You can have a Matriarchal dynasty without any special emphasis on lesbian relations, and you can form a faith with lesbian doctrines without ever putting any points into the new legacy track or even using the Matriarchal dynasty decision.
- There is some material in the mod that toes the line of mature content for CK3, but I don't feel it's out of line for the base game, considering the existing events and interactions. This is not a sex mod and there are no explicit descriptions or images.
- Personal thanks to Buzhidao for making Lesbocracy, and for giving me permission to publish this mod based on their own work.
Main Features
- Adds a decision to start a Matriarchal Dynasty. This gives you certain bonuses, as well as access to a new Dynastic Legacy track. The track and the modifier are meant to enable female-favored succession regardless of faith or culture, and give bonuses to female dynasty members.
- Adds a series of new decisions that allow you to change your faith (if your faith meets certain prerequisites) to be more Equal.
- Adds a new doctrine category focused on Lesbian Relationships. Because these were generally not considered in the Medieval era, they are unlocked in a unique way: a woman can experience a revelation after consummating a lesbian relationship. Otherwise, the category is not shown for any religion.
- Adds a new activity for a women-only gathering. If you know Lesbocracy, you can probably guess what this is.
- Adds a new scheme for homosexual or bisexual women to awaken an interest in women in heterosexual or asexual women.
- Adds new traditions focused on Amazons.
- Player characters playing as women can change their own character's sexuality by seducing women.
- Some other misc features and events for followers of faiths with the new doctrines.
- For a more detailed list of features, I must direct you to this link[docs.google.com]. It is too long to fit in this description. See also for compatibility details.
Compatibility
- Most religious mods should be compatible. The only doctrine category affected is the Homosexuality doctrine, but it may conflict with other mods that modify that.
- Other mods that affect homosexual marriage will probably not play nice either.
- Most total overhaul mods are probably not compatible.
- Try to look at the Google doc for more compatibility information.
Feedback
Comments and criticism is welcome, especially from a technical side of things. While I am open to suggestions, I do have some specific things I want to accomplish with the mod, so I likely won't be adding things like supernatural events.
Goals and Plans
If bugs or issues are discovered, I will do my best to address them, as well as make any modifications I can to make the mod more compatible with other mods without sacrificing the core features of this mod. When Buzhidao releases their own mod, I also want to see if a compatibility patch between this and that will be possible to make, if so, I'll certainly do so.
Known Issues
None as of present, but same-sex marriage does have some rough edges. Sometimes characters end up in one court when you'd rather they were in another.
My Other Mods
Tenets to Doctrines, changes some tenets with more minor effects into doctrines, allowing you to do more with your faith while keeping three core tenet slots.
Traditional Tenets, takes the ideas of Tenets to Doctrines and runs a bit further with them, adding extra tenets to the base game partially inspired by CK2's Holy Fury doctrines.
