Introduction
In my pursuit to play Doom whilst consuming the latest and greatest modifications, I devised my own solution to keep each and every needed file in a complex yet intuitive environment. This tutorial will go in detail how to best keep all necessary files and directories in a single master folder for optimum portability.
Master Directory
The Master directory will be called Doom while the user-created subdirectories will be called
Doom
-- complete
-- env
-- hd
-- maps
-- monsters
-- weapons
The complete subdirectory will contain whole mods such as Brutal Doom (and all associated addons) and Project Brutality.
The env subdirectory contains modifications which affect the surroundings but are not as complete or fullfledged as full texture packs.
The hd subdirectory houses full texture packs such as the DOOM High Resolution Texture Pack.
The maps subdirectory contains megawads and single or small maps.
The monsters subdirectory keeps monsters-only mods.
The weapons subdirectory houses weapons-only mods.
Extracting GZDoom
Straight from the Downloads section of zdoom.org the appropriate install is downloaded and extracted into the master directory.
