You asked for it. You got it: as an addon!
This file contains everything you need to bring your icons back to the old way you knew and loved.
INSTALL INSTRUCTIONS:
Unzip to your Sins Mod folder: Mods 1.85!
Select Yes when prompted to overwrite.
Done.
As a team, we would highly recommend you continue to use the newer generic icons in multiplayer matches as it will provide a much more balanced environment for all players to thrive in and will prevent cap ship sniping on fleets jumping into the system.
Of course, it's up to you what you do.
Here's how it works:
The Zip contains an "addon" mod that only contains the required files to change the icons to the old versions. Your enabledmods.txt will look like this with it active:
TXT
Version 0
enabledModNameCount 2
enabledModName "STA3_FF_IconReplacer"
enabledModName "STA3_Final_Frontier"
As you can see, The STA3: Final Frontier Core module (the full version) is in the bottom of the load order, and must always be so. It's our "base" and we're building on it see? The File above it contains the files we want to edit, and will this replace the files in the core module, as it is above it in the load order. Nice and easy right?
So what happens if you want to play a multiplayer match with the revised generic icons? No worries, we've got you covered! Simply go to your enabledmods.txt in the mod folder and remove the entry for the icon replacer, changing the enabled mod count back to 1. Your enabledmods.txt should look like this after you've done that:
TXT
Version 0
enabledModNameCount 1
enabledModName "STA3_Final_Frontier"
I don't want to promise I've changed each and every icon back. There were a lot! There are also some vessels that we never made unique icons for and I've elected to sympathetically replace these with existing icons.
With that said, I hope you enjoy the sub-mod.
Any changes in this update other than the icons?
Thanks
Adam
this is a standalone addon, as I spent a reasonable time describing. In the description matey. No other changes. The Core game will still have the geometric icons.
My apologies for double checking. Much appreciated.
thanks I've been having trouble identifying what is what
Yay! Thanks, lovely Dukat!
lol. Thanks Dukat. Me and my twin bro appreciate it.
Bug report: Fed Excelsior Class cruiser still has the geometric icon
Thanks for taking the time to make this, despite it being not your preferred design style
Perfect guys thanks so much for listening to what the fans want. Great we can also switch back for multiplayer by just a simple enablemods.txt amendment!
Cheers!!
Thanks Gul. Your not just good you're magnificent! :P
My Romulan Empire thanks you for your work
I installed this side mod for STA3 but when i go to launch on the statistics it is just a white blob and the explosion affects are just white blobs as well. please help

Ok found source of the problem for some reason FRAPS was messing up the models and when i exited it all the models fixed themselves. (When i runned it the Ambassador was all green textures)
Hey can you make a model fixer for this mod?

Can confirm with guest above, icon replace mod's busted.
For too long we mod users have yielded to the outrageous demands of the bland icon and its allies.
When i made this Icon fixer for the game, I pledged to all my fellow mod users that all icons would once again be ours
Is there any word on this getting a fix yet?
Ah, Maybe that's why my game crashes???
I found a work around for the excelsior icon issue.
take the excelsior entity file from the previous version of sta3 (1.56) and replace the file in the icon replacer - game info folder.
im no coder or dev but it was bugging me so much i had to try.
all i can say is it worked for me.
thank you so much for this mod its my favorite game. i also got the mod working in linux.
Any news on a fix for the busted icons?
