Unrealistic requests... Maybe there can be battleships for campaign mode if we ever build one but that's pretty much it.
Oh, I thought you guys limited the options for lag purposes on multiplayer. I'm wondering then about smaller requests.
Like Realism & Longer Strategy Gaming: (Possible Gaming Mod Option for those of us who want less short arcade-style gaming and more strategy options?)
-All buildings should have fire-port options to garrison units.
-Big/Base buildings should need artillery (Range Needs to be at least 2x wider radius)/explosive/building clearing weapons (Flame) depending on Structure Type to be damaged instead of regular bullets having damage effect depending on caliber. This would also give reason to use building weapons and vehicles more.
-Infantry should have more roles/usage in battle while vehicles have a longer build time and cost much more to make.
-Infantry should usually be invisible when not moving, dependng on type (Sniper/Terror/Hijack/Sabotuer always invisible, Normal Soldier invisible until moving/firing, Heavy Weapons Always Visible for obvious reasons.)
-Infantry speed dependent upon weapon carried, which would make transports more useful and utlized in-game.
-Every General should have the basic infantry (standard soldier, Rocket, Motar, Sniper) along with their specialty infantry. But depending on their factions should have different build-time (Shortest/Cheapest/Unskilled = GLA; Then China = Middle build-speed/Moderate Cost/Maybe starts at a Promoted rank 1 being skilled unit OR just has better skill start stats [DMG/Range/Speed] then GLA; USA = Cost the Most, Longest build time for Infantry but Has the best stats and loadout of the Factions).
-LOADOUT Example: Sniper GLA is cheap/quick to make/but has the shortest range of the sniper classes and Maybe at the highest promotion has the ability granted to have the lowest chance per shot to take out a vehicle driver.
While Sniper USA has expensive/long build time/but has abilities to target vehicles from the start and get options to target Helicopters at a decent chance percentage. Also act like artillery spotters/markers which increases damage to the unit the sniper is targeting.
Artillery/Rocket = Accuracy/Range/reload times/Movement Speed ALL dependent upon Faction, Loadout dependent upon General Type; Basically, what would you expect a specific General to field in battle, some might not opt to have certain basic units but might have a range of other options for other unit types.
USA/China:
-MEDICS (Small Area Heal Effect to Fully Heal 1 or 2 soldiers at a time. Other soldiers even at the Highest promotion cannot fully heal, maybe just to start of the green color health bar.
-SERGEANTS (AURA BONUS Similar to GLA Command Truck Aura but smaller range)
-CAPTAINS (CAN Call in smaller off-map abilities depending upon faction and even more diverse upon General Type: artillery, lone plane airstrike/support)
-DELTA FORCE (Close Quarters, Building Clearing)
-SEALS (Air Drops)
-COMBAT ENGINEERS (Can Build Certain Defences & Carry C4)
Put Unit Caps and make them Expensive to offset spamming.
GLA already has Hijacker/Terror/Sabotuer so adding more to the unit roster of the other 2 factions according to true world military units.
MORE GENERAL POWERS DIVERSIFICATION: Some of the powers to each General are pretty straight-forward and are no brainers to get, but that usually leaves the other powers to hardly ever be used or picked. Adding more complementary powers to the generals would help to have players try out other options that are just as devastating as the Generals must have powers to stay relevant instead of mixing and matching powers for other deadly combos.
THIS IS A GREAT MOD!!! I enjoy it thoroughly, I'm hoping my suggestions will help the mod further. Thank you for looking it over!
Your suggestions are way too complicated to apply in terms of balanced gameplay, sorry.
That's ok, but again that is why mods/patches/expansion packs/dlcs were created in the first place. Adding new things, play/beta-testing, then balancing until the game engine has come to its peak efficiency & fun. Looking forward to your next patch or version.
With the crazy ton of things there are in Contra, I think adding more would be superfluous and messy to balance out.
Interesting, how so? Life is full of options, adding more adds to the replay value of the game. Allowing us to try the game in other ways that would not be able to be done if it was not put in there for 'strategic' purposes. I understand your opinion, game design and beta testing is messy business, but that's what grows the game and keeps the player base coming back. Just making sure, there is no disrespect in my messages to the ton of work that has already gone into the mod nor lack of gratitude for what is still being done in the mod. Happy New Year by the way
Have you ever heard of the phrase "Less is more"? Not being greedy with quantity when it comes to art and keeping it as simple as possible is a preferable option and not too time consuming. As someone who works with numerous game devs, I know how things go.

General Full Salvage Suggestion : Create a new GLA General and name it "General SOLEIMANI" with HONOR .
1- Since we do not support addons, it's not our job to fix the problems you may encounter with them.
2- We can't add another general. We reached the maximum number of generals we can implement in the game.
You can modify the ranking system to gain Rank 5 instantly in the .ini files but I'd strongly advise you not to because the cheat will also apply to bot players.
The general promotion system is part of the original game, therefore we can't disable it.

How do I install this on the Origin version ?
I had a beta version working but I wanted the updated version because it was crashing on some maps, so I uninstalled the game and but now I can't make it run.
Origin creates to "Zero hour" folders, one inside the other. I tried installing contra on both of them but it doesn't work. The launcher starts, it applies two patches but something is not right
First, two files missing, mss332.dll and bink32.dll. I downloaded them and copy them into the zero hour folder. With that no more complains for missing files, apparently is about to start, I see a black square like it's trying to load the image with the contra logo and that's it.
Goes back to the launcher.
Can anyone help ?
Hi, did you find the solution to running Contra via the Origin version of the game? I'm having the same issue as yourself RE the missing files.

Can you release a version without the ranking system ? the mod itself is pretty good but the ranking system is awful. Literally taking the fun out of the game. You can't even have a proper war.
No we can't do that. The ranking system is literally part of the game so you will have to make do with it. However it is possible to jump from rank 1 to rank 5 directly by modifying the ini files though I would not recommend you do that because the enemy AI will also gain rank 5 instantly.
