What you could do to keep the thickness it just to place the outer edges into one another with vertex mapping. Of course you need to make sure that the separate pieces are square or triangle like in shape. Meaning: every corner where it makes a curve would've to be a separate brush. That way the middle is thick while the edges become thin like PsyWarVeteran suggested. It will partially give the impression of what you were trying to do by making it look thick and sticky but at the same time making it better looking 'cause the player won't see separate slime textures moving in different directions on it's edges.
As for the screenshot. Lovely work. Great to see you're using texlights.
If you make the slime brush thinner or better yet, give any side other than the top the NULL texture it would look better.
