Wolfenstein 3D is widely known as the very first First Person Shooter that changed gaming forever. One of the most popular shareware games ever for 3 straight years in a row, Wolfenstein 3D puts you in the pants of BJ Blackowicz, an american prisoner of war in a Nazi dungeon where you fight off guards, SS, dogs, zombies, and more assorted nazis! Why can't a fortress ever be bright and happy?
The Dark Fortress is a six-map First Encounter mapset by Masahiro Iwakura. It features pretty basic mapping, with one hell of a maze map among other things. The final map is unusual and creative though, I'll give it that. The mod comes with documentaion, but it's all in Japanese, so I don't understsand a word of it. I wonder why Clubey never translated these? Probably didn't have the time. Oh well.
The Dark Fortress 2 features six completely different maps for the First Encounter. The levels seem to be more interesting all in all, though there's still a spot of navigational challenge, what with all the similar grey texure rooms in map 2. Then there is a 2+ version for the Third Encounter, which adds 3rd Enc enemies in places where, er they weren't before. There is also a stub of a seventh map, indicating that the series might have progressed further if Masahiro kept plugging at it. Shame it never happend.

Blzut3 recently added support for the actual wolfstone data files, and made a converter to rip those files from those games. I think there’s a download on the main ecwolf website.
I can hardly believe how no one has made a Jaguar Wolfenstein mod for ECWolf.
I mean it’s pretty much the snes and Mac version. Honestly you could just replace all the sprites and textures in my snes port with the jag counterparts and change the music and it would be pretty much it.
Yeah but then you can't put the new weapons like the rocket launcher or flamethrower in it.
Snes port has those lol.
