T2Fix is a complete, self-contained patcher and installation utility for Thief II: The Metal Age. Currently, all official patches and several fan-made patches and mods are incorporated, making installing and managing the game as simple as possible. It includes NewDark, the latest fan-developed update to the Dark Engine, providing substantially better support for modern operating systems and video hardware, along with fixed original missions, providing the most pleasant and smooth experience that Thief 2 has to offer.

Included Components:

-NewDark 1.27 (Required)
-Up-to-date scripts (Required)
-DromEd and the DromEd Basic Toolkit 1.14
-AM16's Thief2 Fixed
-Interactive Candles
-Carry Body Mod
-Thief Enhancement Pack
-Thief 2 Sound Effects Enhancement Pack
-T2skies
-T2water
-Thief 2 English Subtitles
-T2FMDML
-Thief 2 Multiplayer Beta
-Thief 2 Legacy Executables
-A variety of other fixes to resources, missions, and the game engine

All components except those marked are optional.

Before Installing:

-Ensure both the Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable and the DirectX End-User Runtimes are installed prior to running setup. Most systems should already have these installed, but in the case that they are not, they are available below.

--Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable

--DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)

-Do not have Thief 2 located in a protected folder such as Program Files and do not set any compatibility modes on the main executable. Doing either will result in a variety of strange things happening, such as an inability to save or load the required resources. T2Fix will issue a warning if this is attempted, though will not ultimately prevent it.

-The officially supported game languages are English, German, and French. While other localizations will likely work without issue, they are not explicitly supported.

System Requirements:

-Windows 2000 or newer must be installed for T2Fix and NewDark to function.
-NewDark requires a Direct3D9-capable graphics card to fully utilize its capabilities. Most graphics chipsets made in the last decade should suffice, but if for some reason you are using a graphics card without these capabilities, running the game with the "-use_d3d_display" command line argument will start the game with the legacy renderer.

It says that it shouldn't be installed in program files. But that is where Steam always installs games. How to work around that?

I've downloaded and installed t2fix 1.27c full version. I noticed something odd. In the mission "trace the courier" the two zombies in the cemetary seems to become hyper alert Or something. Previously it was possible to sneak in and grab the loots near them from distance without ever waking them up. After the patch I can't even get into the range to pick the loots. In order to pick the loots I have to alert the zombies. I've tried multiple times and found no way to get the loots without waking them up. Is this a glitch? If so how cam I fix it?

Hello, thanks for the message. Dormant zombies are actually supposed to behave that way, though this was not originally implemented appropriately with the three zombies in Trace the Courier. It is still possible to retrieve the loot by them without waking them up if you are fast enough. This said, if you would prefer the old behavior, you can restore it by simply removing the file named "miss8.mis.dml" from your installation directory. This will require a mission restart to take effect, however.

Thanks. I have recently found another thing in the next mission "trail of blood". Once I went through the portal into the maw section and went to the portion after the room with eye plants and noticed the red poisonous water is missing. It still damages health but the red water is not seen. It is in both 1.27c and 1.27d. I tried with and without water enhancement. Is it a bug?

The poisonous water is certainly more transparent in the fixed missions, though it should still be visible. This difference occurs as a result of the fixed missions using lightmapped water, which allows light to cast shadows on water surfaces. Especially in dimly-lit areas like the Maw in Trail of Blood, this can make water appear very transparent and difficult to see in some cases. The unmodified original missions did not employ this, nor was it available to use at the time they were made. While I am not the author of the fixed missions, this does not seem to be a bug; rather, the visual difference is a consequence of using new lighting techniques. Unfortunately, such aspects are baked into the mission file. Consequently, you would have to uninstall the fixed missions if this difference bothers you, which is possible by running T2Fix again and ensuring the appropriate box is unchecked during the installation.

What is the difference between this and the "Thief 2 HD Mod"?
