This mod catapults Empire at War into 2077. It maintains the game's design philosophy, while adding new units, better graphics, and deeper gameplay.
So I made a small write-up on the general idea of the ground overhaul. Basic gist of it is, redo the ground portion of the game entirely, with a focus on the connection to space, and more wide open and consistent battle without the dumb as shit way EAW handled this. Inspired by games such as Battlefront (the good ones), C&C generals, the Battle for middle earth series, and more. Quite ambitious, but I'm fairly sure it can work.

Footnote: At the start I mention going through the AOTR and PR maps, these have been kindly put at our disposal by the mod teams that made Awakening of the Rebellion and Phoenix Rising, and special thanks to them, and Clone_Trooper from the Battlefront Commander mod for allowing us to use their content like maps and models!
Sounds ambitious, but I wish good luck with your production.
Thank you. We'll give it our best shot.
Every movie related map for EAW sucks, and even for some mods they suck too!
Do us proud jeroen!
you sir deserve a promotion! just one question , i thought it was always quite realistic to send my ground force with a fleet to capture a plant , will they have dedicated transports in space combat or be attached to a ISD for example?
Thanks, haven't given it any thought.
How do you avoid lag with so many units?
Ive seen quite a few builds on modder PCs run smooth with tons of units but no rig ive ever ran, even the most pwerful, can support large battles without lag
We're going to find out. Worst come to pass and it turns out this many units is not doable for the game, this type of gameplay can very easily be scaled down to a smaller unit pool without much loss of the flow of the gameplay. I'd still prefer it on a larger scale though.
Will rebel legions be equal to the Imperial ones ?
> BFME inspiration
SOLDIER BATTALION STANDING BY
Is there plans in the future for a clone wars or Imperial Civil War era of this?
Ooh, BF1 Hoth remake plsplspls. Loved that map.
How about a special garrison structure, Consrcription center/slave camp/militia garrison/volunteer center that produce an endless supply of subpar trash units to act as cannon fodder. They should stand no real chance against a legion head on, but cannon fodder have value as long as they die instead of anything important, and in extended battles their numbers may see the defender victorious.
Bravo! I have thought about restructuring ground combat along similar lines for some time, utilizing landing buildings to effectively turn capture points into bases, and producing troops. If course, my moods have always lacked a technical aspect as I simply don't have time to do anything other than muddle around. Bravo for being willing to take such a leap, and I hope you will push through to it's glorious realization!
Sounds like this ought to be revolutionary if all goes well with implementation. I am ecstatic to see a modder finally tackle and look into revamping the absolutely horrible ground battle system vanilla EaW has.
About lag and unit scale since this was brought up by another commenter, it might be necessary for some ground battles to be fought on a single notch lower graphical level, and I've noticed that it isn't the units themselves that cause the lag on the map, but the fog and other weather effects/particles primarily, as excessive lag is gone once you zoom out/lower graphical settings and no longer see the subtle fog on the maps.
Always found ground combat to be a missed opportunity in EaW -- glad to see it's being expanded from the vanilla AT-AT/T4-B spam.
Just an idea: Awakening of the Rebellion managed to give infantry squads a single automatic weapon and a single missile launcher. Also, I'd love more crew-served weapons -- perhaps ones that'll let infantry legions counter heavy armour or air.
See this is what ground combat should have been in star wars! Massive battles of attrition! I know that the Rebellion technically couldn't really fight the Empire in open warfare but who cares, rule of cool! I'm very excited to see a more infantry centric style that I feel is truer to the feel of star wars. Hopefully, as we get further into development there will be some opportunities to look into specific things, like Armored personnel Carriers, Dropships, Orbital Fire Support, Special Forces, Legion Attachments, and the like! Very excited to see what comes next!
Does this mean that units will fire at longer ranges? Also the size of your legions sound like they're more akin to a platoon or company sized force.
My my, i'm really looking forward to this. Sounds really ambitious, but that's the fun of it. Good luck.
Can't wait to have a U-Wing supporting ground troops like in battlefront 2
How will produced legions act on defenses. Wouldn't building ten legions and putting them on the surface make that planet unconquerable

You could have the heroes be a passive bonus to the ground troops in the battle instead of having them actually present (sort of like they're generals).
Vader could for example give a +10% firing speed, Veers could give vehicles a +10% damage boost etc.?
